Designed-in features, take into consideration the needs of the user, from inclusion of Braille text for the visually impaired; distinctive colour co-ordinated panels (identified by WRAP for the Recycle Now campaign) incorporating representations of materials to be collected in each container; together with universally recognized colour coded logos to assist in waste sorting, to ensuring that the height enables both children & disabled individuals can easily use the system.
The design, developed in association with the Eden Project, encourages visitors and users to interact with the system, making it attractive, fun & not a chore to recycle. The ultimate aim is for them to take away an awareness of recycling and to follow through with this practice at home.
The stations are already installed at the project and are working well, with good collection rates, enthusiasm and feedback from the public and the operations team.

To further enhance the image of sustainability, a ‘Waste Neutral” programme has been devised at Eden, to communicate,
educate & pursue best practice in waste management, minimisation & recycling. This is a new, ambitious concept & adds a new angle to the waste debate, based on: reducing waste streams, re-using items as well as sourcing all remaining items, wherever possible, from materials that can & will be recycled, adopting a policy of purchasing items that are made from recycled materials.
In simple terms, when we buy-in a greater weight of products made from recycled materials than the weight of materials we send for recycling & disposal, then “Waste Neutral” is reached. This concept can be applied to any organization, community or even individual household - of which Eden is a living case study.
